East Midlands Institute of Technology invites tenders from interested parties for the delivery of research to inform and shape the future of green energy skills for the region.

Partners across the East Midlands Hydrogen consortium are working hard to bring forward a net-zero energy strategy for the region, replacing fossil fuels in transportation, in homes and in energy intensive industries. One of the key challenges that needs to be addressed is the skills gap – having enough people trained, capable and knowledgeable in the production, management and utilisation of new sources of energy.

The East Midlands Institute of Technology (EMIoT) is working with East Midlands Freeport on the development of future energy skills, to provide a template for how skills and education delivery should support and mirror economic growth priorities in a geographical area.

If you have a strong track record in energy planning, skills planning and regional economic growth then EMIoT like to hear from you. In partnership with East Midlands Freeport and East Midlands Hydrogen, the successful organisation can equip the Future Energy Skills Hub to drive a hydrogen and green energy revolution.

DEADLINE for submission:  11.59pm on 3rd September 2024

What is EMIoT?

The East Midlands Institute of Technology is one of 21 IoTs across England, all delivering much-needed STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) skills closely aligned to local economic growth and opportunity.   Institutes of Technology were created by the Government to tackle the skills gaps in high-level technical education in the UK.

The East Midlands IoT is delighted to have been chosen as one of those flagship Institutes and delighted to be working towards a technically skilled East Midlands.

EMIoT is a member of the East Midlands Hydrogen Consortium.

About East Midlands Hydrogen

East Midlands Combined County Authority, Cadent, and some of the region’s leading organisations such as Uniper, Toyota, Midlands Engine, East Midlands Freeport and Leicester & Leicestershire Local Enterprise Partnership have formed an industrial partnership called East Midlands Hydrogen. Co-Chaired by Will Morlidge of EMCCA and Sally Brewis of Cadent, the East Midlands Hydrogen Consortium is set to become the UK’s largest inland hydrogen cluster and will accelerate the development of, and attract investment to, the rapidly growing hydrogen ecosystem in our region.

Unlike other major hydrogen clusters which are coastal, East Midlands Hydrogen is right in the heart of the country. It brings together an intensive cluster of hydrogen demand forecasts from around 70 industrial sites in the Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and northern Leicestershire regions, who are asking for more than 10TWh of hydrogen by 2040 in total, to enable site decarbonisation. For these sites alone, access to low carbon hydrogen would enable carbon savings of 1.9 million tonnes per year, the equivalent of gas-related carbon emissions from 860,000 homes
